Vanuatu and Australia has signed Nakamal agreement 29 June 2026 forging closer ties and cooperation between two countries.
The Nakamal Agreement elevates the partnership between Australia and Vanuatu, deepens integration between our people, strengthens the collective security of our region, and supports Vanuatu’s development aspirations and economic transformation.
Under the terms of Nakamal agreement
- Australia shall provide Vanuatu with enhanced mobility arrangements for Vanuatu visitors to Australia.
- Vanuatu shall develop effective mechanisms to differentiate citizenship by investment from other forms of citizenship.
- The Parties shall undertake an annual review of enhanced mobility arrangements under the Agreement.
Prime Minister Jotham Napat says Vanuatu will continue discussions with Australia on improving travel arrangements, including the possibility of visa-on-arrival access for Ni-Vanuatu citizens. although there is currently no visa waiver agreement, both governments will continue discussions on improved travel arrangements under the Nakamal framework.
Following the agreement, Vanuatu has been reincluded in Pacific engagement visa which includes annual quota of 150 visas.
